As the HR Generalist for Columbia Sportswear’s Portland, OR, distribution center, you’ll play a vital role in providing comprehensive HR support to over 500 full-time employees across three shifts. Your responsibilities encompass various areas including employee relations (ER), leaves, ADA cases, and process improvement initiatives. Additionally, you’ll collaborate closely with third-party vendors and corporate Centers of Excellence (COEs) to ensure effective management of HR processes.


  • Day-to-day quarterback to execute on employee issues, generalist will provide guidance, explain, and interpret policies and practices.
  • Assisting middle managers and employees with development coaching based on current programs in the portfolio
  • Through hands-on support with employees and managers, identifies trends within business and employee base for areas of improvement, training, etc.
  • Aids Centers of Excellence regarding HR compliance to support all functions and appropriate parties through reviews of policies, legislation, etc.
  • Manages Investigations Tier II support; performs initial intake, consults with Sr. HRBP, determines escalation and recommendations.
  • Provide management training on HR policies and procedures in a group or individual setting.
  • Continually enhance knowledge of state and federal regulations and current trends/practices pertaining to Human Resources. Attend training and educational courses to enhance knowledge of all HR areas.
  • Recruiting support outside of high volume and professional recruitment roles
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


  • · A collaborator who can foster and champion cross-functional partnership to solve problems
  • · Able to coach and offer skill development suggestions including employee coaching and manager consultations
  • · A strong communicator with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and with diverse populations


  • · Minimum 3-5 years of Human Resources or related experience.
  • · Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Human Resources, Communications or Social Sciences, relevant experience considered in lieu of a degree
  • · Possess an intermediate level of knowledge related to recruiting and legal employment practices and Federal/State labor laws.
  • · Project management and organizational skills and the ability to translate complex projects into
